We Refer Children / Teens to Summer Film Camps

At film camps, the students learn how to write, shoot, direct and edit their own films. These kids summer camps are designed for teens that have little experience or no experience at all in filmmaking. The students learn to direct their own projects by focusing on the fundamental elements of visualizing a story. The days that your child would be at this summer camp would be split between instruction in class and on-set production. The longer the time your child is at the camp, the more detail they will learn about each subject.

The students at film camps will learn the basic language of filmmaking and will be able to practice what they have learned. They will talk about the shooting plans they have for their projects and will also screen their projects with the instructor. The students at a film sleepaway camp will learn about directing by being involved in hands-on demonstrations so that they will really know how to move the camera, arrange things, and edit the scene. The students will be in film crews of four to direct their films. With a simple idea, the students will learn to take that idea and through different steps, turn it into a script for their film.

At the film camps that The Summer Lady can find for you, the students will have hands-on experience with an Arriflex 16S or a 24P camera. They will have to learn how to load, operate and maintain the camera. When they are finished shooting their film, they will edit their films with digital editing systems so that they have a fabulous final project.

Youth Boy and Girls Film Camp Information

Programs vary in length from 1 week to 8 weeks. Dynamic programs offered feature film classes, video classes and post-production classes balanced with outdoor activities and sports. Film programs range from entry level to advanced classes. Campers will leave camp with finished samples that will showcase their skill level achieved. Campers will learn about history, technique and troubleshooting aspects of both static photography and kinetic photography (filming).

Campers will also learn about applications in editing, duplicating and transforming work they created. Campers learn to critique their own work, learn the language and develop the vocabulary and ability to discuss the elements of film. They can look forward to exhibiting their work, participating in group projects, and sharing their work with fellow campers and staff.

With the confident instruction of experienced professionals, campers can develop their skills at a pace comfortable to them. From the expert instructors recruited, campers will learn from professionals who have worked in the field extensively and can brief the campers considering film and photography as a livelihood. Some programs will allow field trips to visit existing studios where campers can see their skills in current use to bring more value to their education.
